Key function:
The Senior Medical Writer (SMW) is a client-facing role focused on developing engaging scientific content in a variety of different projects aimed at healthcare professionals, patients and the public.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop clear, accurate, scientifically robust, grammatically correct and engaging creative content across a variety of therapy areas covering the full range of medical education and communication materials
- Adapt style of writing to engage multiple audiences including healthcare professionals, internal pharmaceutical company employees, patients and the general public
- Take a leading role in the delivery of scientific meetings including pre-meeting and on-site activities, preparation of content, liaison with clients, faculty, speakers and audio-visual providers
- Take a leading role in the delivery of content for scientific materials or publications, including presenting or updating at client meetings and on calls
- Assist account leads in budgeting by providing accurate predictions of time involved for writing projects
- Manage internal/external service providers for development of materials
- Manage support team to facilitate accurate review of materials
- Provide direction for the development of creative designs/layout for scientific materials
- Manage/co-ordinate materials through design/production to print-ready stage (or for electronic publication), according to standard operating procedures
- In conjunction with the account leads, proactively liaise with clients on a regular basis to identify new opportunities and drive business growth
- Support the development of new business pitches, including research, slide development and ideas generation – as well as attendance at pitches and taking a role at the pitch itself if required
Essential skills/experience:
- Educated to degree level or higher in a biomedical science
- 3-5 years’ experience in a medical education and communications agency environment, including experience of good multidisciplinary teamwork
- High level ability to deliver scientific content for a range of media
- Great attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workload whilst working on multiple projects
- Solid understanding of pharmaceutical company online-review systems
- Solid understanding of pharmaceutical drug development and industry regulations and guidelines. Good project management, problem solving and organisation skills
